The School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute-St. Louis offers a Lecture Series providing workshops on specific Friday afternoons from 3:00 to 5:00 pm unless otherwise noted. All workshops are presented at our location of 11477 Olde Cabin Road, Suite 100, Creve Coeur, MO 63141 (Click for either

Most workshops will provide continuing education credits for behavioral and mental health professionals and students in the St. Louis and surrounding areas. Forest Institute is approved for CEs by the American Psychological Association and is an approved BACB provider (#OP-11-2107).
Workshops and events are offered at a minimal cost and will provide valuable resources, information and inspiration on a variety of mental-health related topics. The registration fee for each workshop is $50 and includes continuing education credits when applicable.

Chronic Illness & Couples Intimate Relationship - Friday, February 3, 2012 (3:00 - 5:00pm) 2 CEs
Therapeutic strategies and coping skills will be discussed for couples struggling with their intimate relationship due to a chronic illness. The impact of a chronic illness on both partners, especially the ‘well' partner will be addressed. Information is based on research the presenter did on endometriosis.

Recognition, Reporting & Responding to Child Sexual Abuse - Friday, March 2, 2012 (3:00 - 5:00pm) 2 CEs
This workshop is intended for individuals who work with children and adolescents in a variety of contexts and who may have questions about child sexual abuse, its impact on children, the signs andsymptoms of child sexual abuse, and what to do if they suspect that a child that they work with may have been sexually abused.
Forensic Assessments - Friday, April 6, 2012 (1:00 pm - 5:00pm) 4 CEs
This workshop will provide participants an opportunity to learn the nuts and bolts of evaluating competency related issues. Participants will be introduced to case law relevant to completion of competency evaluations. Forensic instruments specific to competency evaluations will be discussed.
Current Status & Techniques of Cognitive Malingering Detection - Friday, May 4, 2012 (3:00 - 5:00pm) 2 CEs
Subject performance validity is an important aspect of psychological evaluations, particularly when they involve complaints of cognitive dysfunction in forensic settings such as personal injury litigation, Social Security Disability, Workmen's Compensation, and criminal adjudication.This presentation will review the current standardsfor malingering detection related to cognitive functioning. Free standing and imbedded indices of subject performance invalidity will also be reviewed related to the routinely assessed areas of intelligence, learning, and memory.
Motivational Interviewing & Treatment Engagement - Friday, June 1, 2012 (3:00 - 5:00pm) 2 CEs
This interactive presentation will focus on using brief motivational interviewing strategies to increase treatment engagement in treatment resistant clients. Participants will learn how to identify treatment resistance and learn skills to increase client change talk, thereby improving the chance for behavior change. Participants should have some familiarity with a motivational interviewing treatment approach.
